The construction and operation have achieved great success. Through the national scientific and technological achievements appraisal, it was determined that this independent innovation of industrial technology is at the leading international level.

This achievement was created by Shaanxi Xinxing Coal Chemical Technology Development Co., Ltd., utilizing the independent innovation pilot test results of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the engineering technology development and design strength of Sinopec Luoyang Petrochemical Engineering Company. successful. Ethylene and propylene are the world’s most important and largest basic chemical products, and their production has long consumed a lot of oil. The technology for producing low-carbon olefins from methanol is to use coal or natural gas instead of petroleum as raw materials for the production of ethylene and propylene. Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences began research work on this technology in the 1980s and has completed pilot tests of two generations of technology. The expert group believes that the industrialized experimental device is an innovative technology with independent intellectual property rights. The device is stable, safe, reliable, and has advanced technical indicators. It is currently the only 10,000-ton methanol-to-olefins industrial device in the world. The successful development of this technology has opened up an important way for the development of our country's olefin industry, which is of great significance for reducing oil imports and maintaining national energy security.

Yuan Zhizhong, chairman of Xinxing Coal Chemical Company, explained at the meeting that according to the results obtained and the data available, the economic efficiency of the DMTO process was better than naphtha cracking to produce olefins, which fell to 35 US dollars per barrel in international crude oil FOB prices. At the time, if the control of coal prices is below RMB 400 per ton, large-scale industrialized DMTO projects still have certain economic benefits.
